Teens arrested in Marin burglary may be linked to Bay Area thefts

Two teens were arrested in Novato Wednesday following an alleged repeat theft at the local Sephora.

Police said the youths, one of them from Vallejo, could be linked to similar cosmetics-related burglaries throughout the Bay Area.

On Wednesday morning while a Novato detective was conducting follow-up at the Sephora in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, the two suspects reportedly entered the store and began filling bags with store items.

One employee alerted the detective while the other confronted the suspects, who then fled with their loot, officials said.

A shopper provided a vehicle description and license plate number, which then was broadcase to local agencies.

Central Marin Police Authority officials spotted the red Honda Civic and pulled it over on Spencer Avenue, near Marin City. Stolen items were found in the vehicle, officials said.

Arrested were Destiny Shree Gates, 18, of Richmond and a 17-year-old girl from Vallejo. Gates was booked into Marin County Jail and the youth into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Both face charges of burglary, grand theft and conspiracy.The young women reportedly stole nearly $2,500.00 worth of cosmetic items from Sephora.

The matter remains under investigation.

Officials said the young women and possibly other suspects are responsible for cosmetics-store burglaries in Novato and the Bay Area.
