Los Gatos: 1 injured in fiery crash over 100-foot embankment

LOS GATOS — A man suffered moderate injuries Friday afternoon when his vehicle went over a 100-foot embankment in Los Gatos and burst into flames, authorities said.

A Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District worker reported the crash at Shannon Road and Santa Rosa Drive about 4:25 p.m., according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found an overturned vehicle on fire and flames spreading to the surrounding vegetation.

Crews located the driver outside the vehicle and brought him the roadway. They confirmed he was the only occupant, but a language barrier prevented them from determining if he was ejected or extricated himself before they arrived. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The fire threatened one structure, but it was stopped and quickly contained, the fire department said.
