Belated award for possible
GOP candidate questioned
Re: “Trump awards highest military honor to Iraq War veteran,” (Page A4, June 26):
In a ceremony in the East Room of the White House, former Army Staff Sgt. David G. Bellavia was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Trump for his acts of heroism in Fallujah, Iraq, 15 years ago.
Bellavia, who left the Army in 2005, had previously received the high awards of the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for his services in action. It was not stated in the article whether the Medal of Honor was for a third action or whether it was an upgrade of the previous awards.
Interestingly, the article noted that the public presentation was being held for a potential Republican candidate a decade and a half after the award action took place in Iraq. Bellavia may consider a second try for a House seat that is currently held by a Republican and may be in play in 2020.
