Veteran South African all-rounder JP Duminy has struck a deal with the Rajshahi Kings for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Duminy joins Rajshahi Kings
With bidding goodbye to Test and ODI format, JP Duminy will be a globetrotter now playing franchise-based leagues. He has played over 250 T20 matches scoring over 6000 runs including 41 fifties. Duminy is also a handy off-break bowler who can provide breakthroughs in the middle-overs with 74 wickets to his name in the shortest format of the game. Meanwhile, this will be Duminy’s first season in the seven editions of the BPL who will look to make the most of out it.
Before the World Cup began, JP Duminy was a part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the IPL. However, he didn’t feature in any games which saw Mumbai lift their fourth IPL title beating Chennai Super Kings in the final. In the 2018 IPL edition, he had only managed 36 runs in six matches for Mumbai Indians, having entered the tournament on the back of a decent PSL. Last week, he also joined the upcoming Euro T20 Slam as the marquee player.
Rajshahi Kings seemed glad to rope in a cricketer of JP Duminy’s stature. He has vast experience and will only add depth to their team, a post made on Facebook said. The seventh edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (IPL) will commence from December 6. The itinerary of the tournament is yet to come out.
“Rajshahi are proud to announce that South African all-rounder Duminy is a King now. Duminy; an elegant left-handed batsman, a useful spinner and a sharp fielder, has served South Africa for more than 14 years. He has vast experience in franchise cricket and already led PSL team Islamabad United to their second title in 2018,” the statement read.
