England’s hopes are hanging by the wire in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 when they face India on June 30 (Sunday) at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Moeen Ali, England all-rounder, is eyeing the prized wicket of Indian captain Virat Kohli when they go up against each other.

The host have lost their last two games against Sri Lanka, and Australia which have put their World Cup hopes in jeopardy. The absence of Jason Roy has hurt them badly, and the management is trying all to make the opener available for the game. The poor form of middle order has also raised doubts who entered the tournament as the best batting unit. They will have to bring out their best cricket against India to keep themselves alive in the competition.

Moeen Ali hopes that his first-hand experience of playing under Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League will come in handy. He is also looking forward to picking the prized wicket of his skipper on Sunday. Ali also said that it is a big thing to get a player of Kohli’s calibre out.

“Virat knows he’s there to score runs for India, while I’m here to get him out (or score some myself). It means a lot to get a player like him out but you can still be friends trying to do it,” wrote Ali in his blog for The Guardian.

Ali and Kohli have known each other since the U-19 days. The English all-rounder also added that they became good friends in the Royal Challengers Banglore.

“We have known each other since our under-19 days but over the past couple of years, at Royal Challengers Bangalore, we have become good friends,” he concluded.

Moeen Ali has managed to pick only five wickets and scored 75 runs so far in the World Cup.
