ICC World Cup 2019: Match 2, Windies vs Pakistan – Twitter Reacts as Windies Scripts a Convincing Win Over Pakistan

Windies vs Pakistan

Windies produced an outstanding effort to make a brilliant start to the ICC World Cup 2019 campaign beating Pakistan convincingly by seven wickets at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Windies make a stunning start

The team from the Caribbean were all over the Pakistan batsmen after Jason Holder won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sheldon Cottrell provided the first breakthrough removing Imam-ul-Haq. A short delivery does the trick for the bowler as Imam, who attempts a pull, probably went too hard at it as he ends up gloving it down the leg side to the wicket-keeper. The team from the Caribbean kept up the momentum as Andre Russell got the big fish, Fakhar Zaman first and then skittles Harris Sohail to have Windies at 45 for three.

Oshane Thomas and skipper Jason Holder shared the rest seven in no time. Thomas removed Babar Azam at the right time when Babar was looking to cut loose. Holder then joins the party as he dismisses his counterpart Sarfraz Ahmed and Imad Wasim to break the backbone of the Pakistan innings. Thomas claimed another three including Mohammad Hafeez, Shadab Khan, and Wahab Riaz to return with four wickets as Windies clean up Pakistan for 105 runs.

Chasing a below-par target, Mohammad Amir bowled a good over before Chris Gayle cut loose to take two boundaries to score two boundaries off Hassan Ali. He continued to hammer the Pakistan bowlers hitting two back to back sixes off Ali in the fourth over to provide some momentum to the run chase. Shai Hope also joined the party hitting Amir for a classical boundary before a miscued short got Pakistan their first wicket as Windies reel at 36 for one.

Amir continued his good form as he got the better of Bravo to have Windies at 46 for one. The ball gained some extra bounce after pitching to find the edge of Bravo straight to the hands of Sarfraz Ahmed. However, Gayle continued with the onslaught and this time it was the turn of Wahab Riaz. In the process, he brought his half-century before top-edging one to Shadab Khan to give Mohammad Amir his third wicket. Although Gayle played a thorough knock, others looked unsettled against the Pakistan pacers. But Nicholas Pooran played an unbeaten cameo to win the match with a six with seven wickets in hand.
