This is totally inconceivable, but it has a happy ending thankfully.
On the evening of June 6, 2019, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a discovery made in Cummings, Georgia.
Authorities came to the scene and unraveled an item that looked like a fold-up mat. Inside was Publix’s plastic grocery bag. And there was a small baby girl inside the plastic bag.
Baby India was miraculously alive as described by the officials. She was covered in liquids from coming into the world. Her umbilical cord and a portion of the placenta were still connected.
She was quickly wrapped in a hot cloth by first responders, checked for vitals, and rushed to the hospital.
India is now allegedly “flourishing” in her foster care home and doing wonderfully.
India’s story serves as a powerful reminder about the safe haven laws that currently exist in all 50 states. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says, “This law allows a child’s mother to leave her baby, up to 30 days old, with an employee of any medical facility including any hospital, institutional infirmary, health center or birthing center in Georgia without prosecution.”
In the attempt to learn more about India’s identity and/or the identity of her biological mother, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office released a video showing her rescue.
In the video, see the harrowing and remarkable moment the first responders find baby India alive.
