Contra Costa County: Man air-lifted from park after crashing bike into ravine

A bicyclist was air-lifted from an east Contra Costa County park after crashing into a ravine early Saturday morning.

The East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said first responders were called to a trail in the Round Valley Regional Preserve near Byron about 6:45 a.m. Saturday. Crews had to drive the park’s fire roads to find the rider.

His helmet was cracked and he was disoriented, the district said.

Video posted to the district’s Twitter account showed a helicopter lifting off from the park and taking the man to the trauma center at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

More details about the man and his condition were not immediately available Saturday afternoon.
